Patriot Application
Residential Program
The NCHV Patriot Curriculum centers on veteran health through four foundational values: dignified work, community living, technical training, and a wellness culture that guides the Veteran, or Patriot, on their journey to health. Within the Curriculum, Patriots create their own Personal Development Plan to improve their comprehensive fitness, develop or improve life skills and prepare for transition to a civilian career. In addition to fostering deep emotional growth, the Curriculum provides opportunity for reconciliation – with faith, family, and friends – that is essential to lasting recovery.
The journey for resident Patriots begins with an onboarding period that includes familiarization with the farm, its work, living, and recreational areas, an individual assessment, and creation of the holistic Personal Development Plan. The onboarding period is followed by three trimesters focusing on Resilience (Trimester 1), Trauma Recovery (Trimester 2), and Reentry (Trimester 3). The program ends with a transition preparation period during which the Patriots learn how to maintain balance in their new environments and the support available to them as NCHV graduates. They also conduct an outbound assessment of the outcome of their Personal Development Plan and receive assistance transitioning to new employment and living arrangements.
The daily routine at Valor Farm in Altavista, Virginia, centers on a predictable and peaceful rhythm of work, play, learning, and healing that includes inspirational devotions and physical training, farm, ranch, and construction work, classes, counseling, Bible study, personal development, and camaraderie. Success includes physical, mental, spiritual, emotional, and relational wellness as evaluated by best-practice assessment tools, staff and mentor observation, and ongoing self-assessment.

Our Innovative Program
Nine Month Residential Program
During their time at Valor Farm, Patriots live in individual tiny homes (or a larger family tiny home) within a Patriot Community Village. Each village consists of 20 tiny homes and a Village Community Center where Patriots cook and share meals, enjoy fitness and recreational activities, participate in classes and special events, and grow stronger together. As well, Patriots together engage in meaningful work on the farm (or in the local community) which is aligned with their interests and capabilities. Nine

NCHV is now accepting applications for Patriots in our nine month residential program. We encourage you to identify Veterans who would benefit from our program. The process begins with referral from a trusted private or government entity, followed by an application (including background checks) which the NCHV Client Care Council reviews to determine whether to accept the Veteran into our program or refer them to an organization better suited to meet their needs. Currently, we do not accept Veterans with active addictions.
